Illinois cannabis retailers set a new monthly sales record of $5 million in July, according to the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (DFPR) and the Cannabis Regulation Oversight Office’s (CROO) State of Illinois’ 2026 Annual Cannabis Report.
Sales in August 2026 reached $4.9 million, a 9% increase from August 2025.
The renewed sales growth came one month after Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) signed a cannabis omnibus bill that doubled the industry’s purchasing limits.
IDFPR Secretary Mario Treto, Jr. said that with the changes passed by lawmakers earlier this year, “Fiscal Year 2026 was an important year for Illinois’ cannabis program.”
“We are focused on expanding access for patients and consumers, creating opportunities for businesses and ensuring that Illinois continues to have a cannabis industry that is safe, transparent, and responsibly regulated.” — Treto, in a statement
Officials also noted that while sales were up, prices were down, which led to “the best prices yet for Illinois consumers,” Cannabis Regulation Oversight Officer Erin Johnson said.
Throughout the fiscal year 2026, the Illinois Department of Revenue collected $456.4 million from adult-use cannabis taxes and assessments.
