Florida cannabis reforms

Florida was a relative latecomer when it came to legalizing medical cannabis but today it is one of the largest state-legal cannabis markets (although recreational cannabis use remains prohibited). Voters overwhelmingly chose to legalize medical cannabis in 2016 through a constitutional amendment — previously, lawmakers had established a very minimal program that let seriously ill patients with cancer or epilepsy access low-THC cannabis products.

The current program is regulated by the Office of Medical Marijuana Use, which is a part of the Florida Health Department. Advocates intend to put the issue of general cannabis legalization to Florida voters in the coming years.
